Now a regular session at IIeX NA, I’m delighted to introduce you to the speakers taking part in the New Speaker Track!  These folks have never spoken at a conference before so let’s give them a hearty hello and welcome!

Today we meet Dan Currier, Director at Kantar Millward Brown. Find Dan on LinkedIn.

  1. What tip have you received that was most helpful in preparing to be a speaker? Force yourself to speak slowly. Once I get going, I can spout out words like a fire hose, but slowing down not only helps the audience understand me but also calms my nerves and clears my thoughts.
  2. What would you say/recommend to other people who have never spoken at a conference before? Speaking is such a great way to challenge yourself and discover new things about yourself- you may have a hidden talent you never knew you had!
  3. Why do you want to speak at IIeX? IIeX is such a great convergence of great ideas that its honoring to be able to contribute.
  4. What are you most looking forward to about IIeX? Seeing some exciting new thoughts and innovations to drive our industry forward.

Dan Currier, Director, has been with Kantar Millward Brown for 8 years. While at KMB, he has held several client-facing management and analyst roles, working on a wide variety of clients and industries. His research experience includes brand equity, copytesting/creative development, and analytics, with a specific focus on measuring in-market brand performance through traditional and new methodologies. Prior to joining KMB, Dan worked in media buying and planning with Group M. He received his Bachelors in Journalism (Advertising concentration) from the University of Georgia and received his Masters of Arts in Journalism from the University of Georgia.

A Change of Pace: Faster Neuroscience, Greater Impact

4:20pm – 4:40pm Jun 11

Neuroscience techniques have unlocked a new world of research insights, yet are often time consuming, costly, and disconnected from other streams of research. In this presentation, I’ll share some ways we’re “speeding up” neuro research at Kantar to unlock insights faster:
-Building dashboard-based visualizations of techniques
-Utilizing neuro techniques side by side with, and sometimes as a replacement of, traditional in-market tracking

Once again, I’m delighted that IIeX Europe is running a New Speakers Track featuring people who have never spoken at a conference before. Leading up to the conference, we’re introducing some of the speakers and hearing what they have to say about this opportunity!

Today we meet Sam Curtis, Managing Director at Moment10. Find Sam on LinkedIn

  1. Why have you never spoken at a conference before?  Not sure! Always had a boss before I guess…
  2. Why did you decide to speak at IIeX Europe? Had written with some of the Greenbook authors before so knew about the conference. The focus on innovation is key.
  3. What are you looking forward to the most about IIeX Europe? Meeting loads of interesting people!
  4. What do you hope to learn from this event? A good perspective on the pace of change in the industry – are we moving quickly enough?

The Kid in the Corner
3:00pm – 3:20pm Feb 19
While clients are becoming increasingly data-driven, the market research as a whole is not experiencing significant growth. This presentation will argue that a major factor behind this is the rise of data ecosystems and the inability of many research approaches to connect into those ecosystems and add value.
My presentation will deliver:

  • An understanding of the ecosystems that are growing, what they are used for, and how you can integrate into the
  • Practical explanation of why many research approaches fail to integrate
  • Recommendations for how the industry should be adapting to this challenge

Once again, I’m delighted that IIeX Europe is running a New Speakers Track featuring people who have never spoken at a conference before. Leading up to the conference, we’re introducing some of the speakers and hearing what they have to say about this opportunity!

Today we meet Anije Lambert who is the Founder and Director of the Project Development Consultancy (PDC Research). She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology from the University of Guyana.  Anije focuses on data collection, data analysis, and data management and consulted with global research companies. In addition, she is the Guyana Representative of SCL International, the Chair of the Membership Committee on the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce Council, and an Esomar Representative. Anije is a 2016 Young Business Executive nominee (Guyana) and won a 2017 Gini Valentine Award.

Find Anije on Twitter

  1. Why have you never spoken at a conference before? I worried that my content wasn’t as brilliant or innovative or cutting edge to the market. I guess you can say it was 85% fear based, but I used 15% of logical reasons such as work, no time, expenses – IT’S SO EXPENSIVE to go to anywhere from Guyana! Let’s not talk about the Visa Requirements. The process could be so complicated that you have to travel to another country to submit your visa application. At the end of the day, those answers were just really smart answers to mask my fear. Where there is a will, there is a way!
  2. Why did you decide to speak at IIeX Europe? A dear friend of mine sent me a twitter message saying that this was a good idea. I first dismissed it (again the first logical reason – the expense), but something sparked. Why not step outside of my comfort zone?  So I applied and I got to be a speaker. There was no turning back.
  3. What are you looking forward to the most about IIeX Europe? To be inspired! I went to IIeX Atlanta and that event changed me. It changed the frame of my outlook on the Market Research Industry.
  4. What do you hope to learn from this event? I want to learn about the new technologies that are emerging within market and social research, tech that brings about greater depth into the ocean of insights. That sounds generic or cliche but I really mean it. New technologies are super cool. I feel like a kid in a toy store. I mean, who doesn’t get excited at the thought of gadgets and new methodologies. If you don’t, you need to reconsider your profession.
  5. What would you like people to take away from your presentation? I’d like my presentation to be one that makes you question traditional beliefs and share a story that gives hope. I want to share a story that moves the listener into the running position and propels them to take off.
  6. Anything else? Yes, I think interviewees usually end with something smart [Laughs] We are always bombarded with the concept of ‘never giving up.’ And we beat ourselves up. Whenever we face a situation, we bow out. But the reality is that it’s okay to give up. Yes, sometimes giving up means scrapping the one idea that could have brought in millions. But sometimes, giving up simply means letting go of things that drain you, and allowing something greater take its place. What makes life so special is that as long as you are breathing, you can begin again.

Building the MR Industry from the Ground Up: Guyana Case Study
11:40am – 12:00pm Feb 19
This session will discuss the growing market research industry in Guyana, including the challenges researchers will face in Guyana and other Caribbean nations, and approaches used to build the market research industry in Guyana.

Once again, I’m delighted that IIeX Europe is running a New Speakers Track featuring people who have never spoken at a conference before. Leading up to the conference, we’re introducing some of the speakers and hearing what they have to say about this opportunity!

Today we meet Maurice Gonzenbach, the Co-Founder of Caplena GmbH. Maurice brings together an IT background, focused on Machine Learning techniques for language and image problems, with hands-on entrepreneurial and consulting experience.
Find Maurice on LinkedIn

  1. Why did you decide to speak at IIeX Europe? I’m a techie by training but recently I have worked more and more on software tailored to market research professionals. Speaking at IIeX is a great opportunity to share my ideas on how core processes of market research like survey analysis could be done in the future. I will hopefully be able to challenge the audience with ideas but expect them to do the same with me. Finally, we of course also want to show people things we created, like codit.co, our platform for coding surveys using AI.
  2. What are you looking forward to the most about IIeX Europe? Being a young start-up and relatively new to the industry, I’m very excited to meet industry veterans as well as other newcomers to learn more about the challenges they are facing and ideas they are pursuing. I hope to go home with dozens of new connections, a few new friendships, and of course many new collaborations 🙂
  3. What is the most intriguing thing you will discuss in your IIeX talk? I’ll try to challenge some views of mainstream media on AI and the seemingly imminent coming of general AI. In my opinion, for many years to come, companies employing this technology successfully will rely on tailored AI.
  4. What do you hope to learn from this event? We have dozens of ideas on how to improve things or do them differently. But as John Salvatier nicely illustrated in his blog, “reality has a surprising amount of detail”. Together with senior industry experts we want to figure out those details and explore approaches to improve things in ways that these details are taken care of.

Real Data has Curves: Why You Should Train Your Own AI
11:20am – 11:40am Feb 19
We will show on real data why it is often necessary to build your own AI instead of relying on a general purpose solution from big tech companies. Participants will experience live 3D-visualizations of state-of-the art machine learning techniques which they can explore themselves. Finally, we will show interactively how to train your very own AI to code a survey.
– One-fits-all-solution actually fits no-one (real data has curves)
– Interactive visualizations
– Building custom AI that beats the general Google API in your domain isn’t (that) hard

Need funding to speak at an #MRX event?

At a Greenbook #IIeX event I chaired recently, a speaker was really tight for cash. She had a great talk prepared, she was ready to take the stage for the very first time, and she has an awesome future ahead of her as a speaker. But since she didn’t work for a private company and she was wasn’t made of money herself, she needed a boost of cash or she would end up in debt making it happen.

I took to gofundme, shared the request with my network, and got a lot of help from very kind people. Enough to give this new speaker a bit of a safety net and enough that I still have some cash.

With that in mind, I have two objectives.

  1. If you would like to help more new speakers get on stage, please donate here.
  2. If you are in need of cash, read through my criteria below, and see if you qualify. If you do qualify, I expect you have the initiative to figure out how to send me your information.

The Criteria To Recieve Cash

  • I must be able to personally verify all of the details I request from you
  • I must be able to connect with you on LinkedIn and see that you are legit. References from people I know would be helpful but absolutely not necessary.
  • You must have received an acceptance to speak at a market researchconference
  • It must be for the first talk you have ever given at a conference
  • You must demonstrate how you speaking at the conference increases the diversity of speakers at that conference
  • You must tell me all of your sources of funding for the conference, including who your employer is and how much your employer is contributing

Other Items of Note

  • I will not respond to any queries other than to tell the people who are successful
  • If you are successful, you must agree to being publicly named as a recipient.  (The donors deserve to know.)
  • I will not fund anyone completely. You will still be responsible for a large portion of your costs.
  • My decisions are 100% subjective, final, and nonnegotiable.
  • Probably some other rules that didn’t occur to me along the way. See my note re 100% subjective

Yes, this sounds like a lot of rigmarole but people are donating their hard earned money to help deserving, undersupported people and I need to make sure their money is well spent.

Thank you for supporting diversity!

speaker photoNeuroscience Research into Brand Receptivity

Vuk Pavlovic, Project Manager, True Impact
9:40am – 10:00am Feb 21

With an estimated global investment spend in mobile video advertising to reach $25B by 2021, the need to understand the power and the perils of mobile video advertising has been in high demand. The challenges with mobile advertising are vast, however, the opportunity to create meaningful and positive interactions with audiences is great in mobile because of the data rich, highly engaged and personal nature of the mobile device.

MediaBrix, leaders offering in-app mobile video advertising platform, set out to measure the effectiveness of different mobile video ad solutions and to understand what attributes of the delivery method drive to a receptive user, get human attention and has a positive business impact. Together with True Impact, the research study employed neuro and biometrics to reveal how advertising delivery methods impact a brand. The study aimed to answer the following questions:

– What is the most efficient and effective way to advertise on a mobile device using video?
– What are the key factors that drive user receptivity and purchase intent?

The research identified that games and apps inherently feature highly gamified content which requires a high level of cognitive load supporting the idea of apps being a task oriented, user driven experience. Within the app/game environment, the research found new evidence for the brain’s reaction to emotionally targeted, rewarded and contextualized ad delivery methods.

Why did you submit to IIeX Europe?
IIeX Europe is a one of a kind event that provides a prestigious platform for new speakers and is at the same time a dynamic hub of learning and sharing, connecting business with cultural experiences.

What will you speak about and why should people attend your session?
Mobile tech is the new frontier, literally bringing marketing content to the customer’s fingertips.  I’ll be speaking about using neuroscience to test and inform our approach to advertising, humanizing the experience, going from mere exposure to collaboration and creating more positive brand associations.

Why have you never spoken at a conference before?
Sharing my experiences has always been an exciting prospect so I have spent 3 years working through every level of the neuromarketing process.  From customer to researcher to marketer, speaking to the many variables of the field requires a focused knowledge of a broad range of specializations.

What are you most looking forward to about IIeX Europe?
This will be my first time in Amsterdam!  Getting a glimpse of Europe is always a lifelong memory.  I also rarely get to see movies and with the long flight from/to Canada, I think I'll get in 4 or 5.  I assume hearing all the wonderful speakers at the conference is a given.

Any other comments you’d like to share?
My deepest gratitude for letting me take part in this amazing event.  It is a privilege and I can’t wait to meet everybody.

Baileigh Allen, MA, PRC
Director, Customer Conversation Analytics, Brandtrust

Basic human truths fuel the success of the world’s greatest brands. With trust at the core, we can foster irresistible bonds with consumers that are difficult, if not impossible, to break. Without trust, a brand doesn’t stand a chance of consideration. Hear why the brand trust index is relevant to your organization, why trust is critical for your success and how the process of Metaphor Inquiry sets this index apart from all others. Using Amazon as a case study; this provocative model is engaging and the new way of scoring brands with an emotional model intertwined. We will focus upon:
– What does trust mean in the context of any relationship – brand or otherwise?
– How can we measure trust?
– How does metaphor inquiry set the brand trust index apart from all other indices currently available?
